I am judging Congress, so there are a few things I really look for. First is a novel argument, whether in the affirmative or negative. I love hearing something that hasn't been hashed and rehashed. I also like to see as much of a balance as possible between extemporaneous speech and referencing your prepared notes. When refuting (or supporting) someone's arguments, I like it when you reference the Representative or Senator by name as well. Confidence in your speaking abilities, movement, and eye contact show me that you are comfortable and prepared for your moment.

I am a parent judge, so please do not do anything that you wouldn’t do for a parent judge. I have a few rules of thumb.

1. Please do not speak too fast and make sure you are clear while you speak.
2. I listen to everything during the round, and I will judge based off speeches.
3. Please be respectful and kind to both me and your opponent's.
4. Please have fun and try your best!

I did speech and debate all throughout highschool, (Dec, Opp, LD, Pufo, Congress) I have experience and know when something is a good debate versus one side beating down the other side. Im a pretty laid back judge, my main focus when judging debate rounds is to look for a GOOD debate, I don't want to hear constantly how your opponents arguments don't stand. I want to hear how your evidence proves that your opponents stance is faulty not that "it just is". As long as you all remain respectful well mannered and levely voiced I have no problem making decisions based on content alone.
