Event Description:
PUBLIC SPEAKING PHASE
Students are to write a 6-8 minute speech on the following topic:
RE:SOLVED - THE UNITED NATIONS DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS HAS LOST ITS RELEVANCE.
The speech does not need to be memorized, but it is meant to persuade.
In January of the new year, the top 32 students will be announced and will enter the "debate phase". Students will compete in Canadian National Debate Style with the following speaking times:
Prime Minister - 6 minutes
Leader of the Opposition - 6 minutes
Deputy Prime Minister - 6 minutes
Deputy Leader of the Opposition - 6 minutes
Leader of the Opposition - 3 minutes
Prime Minister - 3 minutes
Each round (16, quarterfinals, semis and finals) will have a new debate topic based on the theme of universal human rights.
The final four will be flown to Toronto no matter where they are in the world and debate at Branksome Hall on the 27th of April. The winning team of two will receive $5000 aimed toward post-secondary studies. The runner up team will receive $2500.
