Event Description:

Combined Interps:

Multiple events are offered in the world of Interp each ranging within 7-10 minutes per performance. Those events include: Humorous Interp (or HI), Dramatic Interp (or DI), Program of Oral Interpretation (or POI), and DUO Interpretation. All of these events ask for a student to make a piece of literature come to life through characterization and movement. Judging interpretation events, or Interp, can be thought of as judging the acting abilities of performers. POI differs from the other events because students are allowed a manuscript, typically in the form of a small black binder. Although it is allowed, there are disadvantages and advantages to it. It is important that all competitors are memorized. Reading from the manuscript excessively can result in a loss of speaker points. If HI, DI, or Duo competitors aren’t completely off script they cannot place 1st in the room. Each competitor is allowed 30 seconds under and over the 7-10 minute range before they are docked speaker points or stopped.
