Event Description:

  • Definition and Selections:

    • Prose conveys thought through language organized in sentences and paragraphs, including both fiction (short stories, novels) and non-fiction (articles, essays, journals, biographies). Plays and other dramatic works are not allowed. In Prose, if the source is an anthology of short stories or novels, each selection must be independent, with only one selection permissible from a given source, even if by the same author.
  • Reuse:

    • For Prose, the same source used in events like Duo, Dramatic, Humorous, or Program Oral Interpretation cannot be reused. If using an anthology for Prose, the same anthology may be used, but the exact selection previously performed in these main events cannot be repeated.
  • Time:

    • The performance must be within a 5-minute limit, with a 30-second grace period. Exceeding the grace period may affect ranking if all judges agree. No minimum time is required, and judges should use accurate timing devices.
  • Presentation:

    • Performances must be from a manuscript, which may be in a folder. Reading from a book or magazine is not permitted.
