Event Description:
Drawing Topics
- Speaker draws three topics, picks one, and puts the other two back in the envelope.
Preparation and Delivery
- Time Limit: 7 minutes for both preparation and speech with a 30-second grace period. If a speaker exceeds the 7-minute limit, they cannot be ranked 1st.
- Materials:
- Printed Sources: Books, magazines, newspapers, journals, and their photocopies (must be intact and unmarked).
- Index: Topical index without annotations is allowed.
- No Electronics: No electronic devices allowed. Only printed material from online services is permitted.
- Restrictions: No pre-written speeches, notes, handbooks, briefs, or outlines allowed. No underlining or highlighting in more than one color.
Timing
- Grace Period: Accurate timing devices must be used. If a speaker exceeds the 7-minute limit plus 30-second grace period, they cannot be ranked 1st. Ranking is at the judge’s discretion.
